We went North for the weekend of 6 September as our son wa getting married at Warkworth on the Northumbrian Coast, with the wedding reception held in Alnwick Castle. Here are the happy couple.
So it wsn't really a weekend to get out and do much birding(-:). However, on the way up we called at Cresswell Beach and had a quick glimpse of what Druridge Bay reserves might have to offer on future visits. At Cresswell we saw Turnstone
Rock Pipit
and a small group of Fulmar talking amongst themselves
and then setting off on flybys
Ther e were also an assortment of Crows
as well as a few Redshank flying in to feed on the ebbing tide.
On our quick stop at Druridge bay - only the access road area, not the hides, we saw this delightful male Stonechat who was totally unperturbed by our visit
even flying and perching quite closely
That was a quck visit but we wplan to return next time we are up north.
As we left Warkworth on the Monday morning we stopped in a layby overloking the Coquet estuary. There were lots of Cormorant and Heron on the far shore, along with a couple of female Goosander.
The highlight though was this very close Eider duck just below us.
Birding and a wedding. That's a pretty impressive juggling act Bob. I thought that Eider was a Shoverler! I need to swat up on my bird ids!
